290+ million contacts end up in Canadian landfills or waterways every year. These contacts become microplastics that pollute wastewater and ends up making their way into the environment. We have partnered with Bausch + Lomb and Terracycle so you can now properly recycle your discarded lenses and blister packs of every brand. Recycling guidelines

Today is World Sight Day, the most important day on the global eye health calendar. It's a day to build awareness and raise money to help people around the world who are needlessly suffering from avoidable blindness and vision loss. Did you know that 75% of people in the world who are blind or have limited vision could see clearly again if they had proper eye care? Just think about that for a moment. That’s almost 190 million people whose lives could be changed for the better, if they just had access to the kind of eye care that we’re so fortunate to have here in Canada. Something like a routine surgery to correct a child’s crossed eyes, a basic eye exam to diagnose a common eye disease, or even a simple pair of glasses to correct nearsightedness. It’s the kind of care and treatment we’ve become so accustomed to in Canada that we don’t even give it a second thought. As a result, millions of people are needlessly going blind or suffering from a life of compromised vision that limits their ability to go to school, get an education, earn a living, provide for their family, or even just to live independently. During the month of September, we started to collect donations for our repair & adjustment service, as well as lens cleaner and eyeglass cases. With your help, we were able to raise $380.
This will be an ongoing service in our practice. We would like to give back as much as we can in any way possible. As little as $5 can provide access to an eye exam and a pair of glasses for someone struggling with avoidable blindness or vision impairment. Learn more ![]() Touchstone is a non-profit community based social service agency. They have been providing services to Richmond and nearby areas since 1983. Their services have primarily focused on preserving and enhancing family relationships. Through qualified staff, they offer a wide variety of professional services to the community to help build family life and relationships. They provide opportunities to share information, learn about child development, parenting skills and techniques as well as counseling, and support services for families in crisis. In 2018, the Tee Cup Charity was able to raise $30,000 to support Front Porch Counseling Program. While most of the programs are funded by the government, this one depends on donations. It allows families to receive counseling, and pay what they can afford. This year will mark the 14th annual golf charity event and our second time to join. It’s a fun event going to a great cause. It is also a great way to meet other professionals who love to golf and giving back to the community just like we do. Orbis is an international non- profit organization that brings people together to fight avoidable blindness. They are world’s only Flying Eye Hospital. The Orbis Flying Eye Hospital is a state-of-the-art teaching facility complete with operating room, classroom, and recovery room. In 2018, they have performed over 4.8 million screening/ examinations, and over 78,000 surgeries or laser treatments. This year, Orbis 2019 Plane Pull for Sight Vancouver raised over $94,000 – and we couldn’t have done it without the support of everyone. Overall, nearly $280,000 across all three cities was raised and we are so incredibly proud to be part of that accomplishment. With your support, we raise over $3,200 and bring together a team together to pull a 60-tonne FedEx plane in 12.9 seconds. Even though it rained, our day was not dampened and we enjoyed the different activities around the tarmac. It was an amazing experience and we cannot wait to try again and beat both our donation amount and plane pull time. Children will have the opportunity to attend school and get an education, and adults will regain the ability to work, earn a living and provide for their family in ways they couldn’t before. With your support, we can change the narrative for so many from one of poverty and struggle, to one of prosperity and happiness. That’s why what Orbis stands for is so important and why need your support next year in the fight to end avoidable blindness. Dr. Robert Kemp has been working with us for over 20 years. We appreciate every thing he does for us and would like to wish him the Happiest Birthday from the Eye Station Team!
